Katie Astin is a character in the novel Final Destination: Death of the Senses. The representative of touch; a former child star, who now works as a talk show host and televangelist, she is kindhearted and truly believes in the messages she preaches, making her immensely popular.

Two days after the death of the John Doe, Katie arrived at her television studio to film. In the crowds of fans outside the studio, a man named Jack Curtis introduces himself to her and tells her that her life is in danger. After brushing off his warning, Katie enters the studio. After she was done filming, she leaves the studio. Jack walks up to her and warns her again. After brushing off his warning once again, Katie crosses the street. She is nearly hit by a speeding taxi. Luckily, Jack managed to pull her out of the way in time. She falls near a hot dog cart. Suddenly the cart tips over and spills boiling water. Before the water could reach her, Jack manages to pull her back in time and uses himself as a shield to protect Katie. Unfortunately, one of the propane tanks from the cart managed to detach itself from its hose and started leaked gas, causing a gas explosion and launching the same tank towards Katie. Once again Jack manages to pull her down as the tank flies past them into the studio windows, exploding upon impact. After being treated for minor burns, Katie meets Amy Tom and rewards Jack with a check and a spot on her talk show. Later on, that evening, Katie, along with Jack, Amy, and music producer Joshua Cornell III, find celebrity chef Dominique Swann at the L'Opera restaurant, only for her to choke to death on a glass shard launched into her mouth by a fire.

Katie is the fourth survivor of the John Doe Murder Spree to die.

Death

The next day, Jack arrives to the studio to be on Katie's talk show. After the first segment of the interview, Amy suddenly runs into the studio and on stage, screaming at Jack, saying that he is the sixth victim. Just as this happens, a lighting rig suddenly falls, swinging down and nearly hits Jack as Amy shoves him to the ground. Then, the lighting rig swings back down and nearly hits Amy as Jack get her out of the way. As the lighting rig falls onto the stage, a spotlight above Katie falls down on her as she looks up as it explodes in her face. Unable to see, Katie falls to the ground and touches the lighting rig, electrocuting her.

  • In Jack's premonition, Katie would have her hands severed.
  • The John Doe believed Katie was the corrupt "touch" of the city. Her death involves her touching a hazardous object.

  • On the same billboard, one of the lights flickered before burning out, foreshadowing the the exploding spotlight that later falls right on her face.
  • The phrase "See the light and feel the love" that Katie constantly uses can be used to foreshadow her death as she saw "the light" in the form of an exploding spotlight and felt "the love" in the form of a live cable.
  • While waiting to talk to Katie, Jack notices something flash in a window of a coffee shop. Seconds afterward, Jack realized it was a taxi.
  • A strong gust of wind is what causes the accident that electrocutes Katie.
  • Katie was nearly killed three times. She was nearly hit by a taxi, nearly had her face burned by boiling hot water from a falling hot dog cart, and nearly hit by a propane tank.
