Joshua Cornell III is a character in the novel Final Destination: Death of the Senses. The representative of hearing; a former rapper as who now works as a music producer, he operates under the guise of a punk as Masta Thugg, but in actuality is fairly sophisticated as he is a graduate of Harvard and a successful businessman.
Two days after the death of the John Doe, a man named Jack Curtis and a police officer named Amy Tom entered his apartment. After telling him that he is on a death list, they leave when he doesn't believe them. Afterwards, Joshua listens to opera music, not knowing the headphones he was using somehow pushes several CDs off his table. When he finally notices this, he picks them all back up. While trying to grab a CD that rolled behind a shelve, his arm becomes tangled with wiring. After trying to pull his arm out, he realizes about the large heavy speakers. Finally managing to pull out his arm, the shelve gives away. Joshua manages to escape only to slip on the CDs and lose his balance. Knowing that he was about to fall into a glass table, Joshua spreads out his arms to hang onto the metal frame as the glass breaks. After safely getting up, he calls Jack and Amy, telling them that he finally believes them. They meet up with televangelist Katie Astin at the L'Opera restaurant, to save celebrity chef Dominique Swann, only for her choke to death on a glass shard.
Joshua was the fifth survivor of the John Doe Murder Spree to die.
Death
The next night, after being told about Katie's death by Jack and Amy, Joshua overacts, knowing that he is next. After turning up his speaker, the vibrations cause a wineglass filled with red wine he placed nearby to fall. The wine causes the speaker to short-circuit and explode. It sends a platinum record flying through the air, slicing through Joshua's head. Seconds after, his head slides as his body falls to the ground.
Signs
- In Jack's premonition, Joshua would have his ears cut off.
- After encountering the John Doe, Jack was nearly hit by an SUV full of suburban kids listening to rap music.
- One of the lines that Jack recognizes from the rap music was "I don’t take no shit from no motherfuckin’ bitch, grab ma Uzi an’ shoot that floozy, ‘cause ’m a hardcore killa".
- After leaving Joshua's apartment building, Jack suddenly felt cold.
- Jack spots an electronics store with audio equipment visible in the window and a sign saying, "Our prices are always falling".
- Joshua places the same platinum record that would slice through his head later on the speaker that would explode.
- Amy notices that the same platinum record was shaking.
- Joshua spills red wine all over his carpet, foreshadowing the blood splatter after his head falls off.
- Jack notices that the moon was still in the full stage.
- The opera music that Joshua was listening to, Otello, ends seconds after he dies.
- Because he is the representative of sound, he is killed by an item which can make music.
- Joshua was nearly killed two times. He was nearly crushed by his audio equipment and nearly impaled by broken glass.
