Carter, get out of the car!
|
BC Rail M420 #747, a Diesel Locomotive from the film Final Destination, is a Montreal Locomotive Works M-420 that Carter Horton was almost killed by. It is only seen once and never seen again in the film and any other films. It carries freight.
It is one of death's servants as like all other vehicles serving death it does not have a visible engineer, though it's horn blares periodically. It only travels by rail. As Carter was driving dangerously in an attempt to commit suicide by car accident, William was told to immediately stop the car by the entire group and stalls his car on a railroad crossing which then activates soon after. Carter still deciding to die on his own terms changes his mind at the last minute.
The train arrives closing in on Alex and Carter as Alex tries to help Carter, but Alex eventually pulls Carter out of the car just as the train smashes it seconds later. The train passes by and as Billy insults Carter, a chain underneath the train swipes up a piece of shrapnel from the car wreckage which is sent flying in Billy's direction. He turns around as the shrapnel decapitates him from the jaw up. After the train passes, his body collapses on the ground. The train itself is not seen ever again in any of the films.
Trivia[]
- Originally, the entire series was supposed to have at least one train per film that killed off one character from the group after the train scene from the first film was well liked, but were discarded since a lot of work would have to be done.
- The train was supposed to be a passenger train, but since the train had no engineer, it would be pointless for the passengers not to know what's going on.
- There were alternate scenes that never made it into the film:
- Billy stands on the tracks to try and signal the engineer, but notices that there's no one in the cab and becomes terrified, tells the others, but gets hit by the train and is torn apart in the process with blood painting the locomotive, some of it's cars, some of the grass, and most of the group.
- While Billy is insulting Carter, as the train passes, it begins to derail for no apparent reason and one of the train cars crushes Billy in the process as the others flee narrowly avoiding flying rail cars and exploding freight cars.
- The locomotive derails and it starts rolling towards Billy as if it was still driving and hits Billy paining itself with his blood and tearing him apart with his organs on the ground. The locomotive's window glows red and blares it's horn before shutting down completely.
- The real BC Rail 747 in its railroad is actually an SD40-2 diesel locomotive.
In Real Life[]
The locomotive was portrayed by a BC Rail M420W locomotive, with part of the BC Rail logos and original numbers patched over by a completely different railroad name. The M420W locomotives are built by the Montreal Locomotive Works between 1973 and 1977. They were located somewhere in railroad lines in North America and Venezuela.
