Amy Tom is a character in the novel Final Destination: Death of the Senses. She is a young member of the N.Y.P.D. with a penchant for metal sculpting. She works with and is friends with Pete Beriev.
One winter night, Amy and Pete were on patrol. While waiting for Pete to done using the restroom, she notices a suspicious man in an alleyway. Amy decides to investigate, only to be knocked out. Before the man could slit her throat, a homeless man named saves her. After being treated for minor injuries, Amy is discharged from the hospital. Amy arrives at the police station and talks to the homeless man, Jack Curtis, asking about how he knew how she was in trouble. He tells her about his premonition. Amy tells him that she can reserve him a spot at a homeless shelter. Amy and Pete were caught up in traffic due to a crowd gathering outside a building. After realizing that there was a leaper on the roof, she coincidently meets up with Jack. Jack realizes that the leaper was a friend and leaves to save him. A news reporter named Chelsea Cox briefly interviews Amy. Seconds after Lonnie fell off the building, Amy witnessed Chelsea's death. Afterwards, she and Jack leave the scene and discuss his premonition. In hopes of finding more information about the John Doe, they go to the morgue at St. Vincent's Hospital. They meet the replacement mortician, William, who allows them to see the John Doe's body and offers Jack some advice, to "watch for the signs". After William leaves to go back to work, they talk to Dr. Klugman, who shows them the only thing that the John Doe had on him: a key. After Jack recognizes the logo on the key, he steals it, and they go to a warehouse with the same logo. After using the key to open the warehouse, they investigate and find a book written by the John Doe. After finally realizing what the advice from William meant, they are able to figure out who are the targets from the vague passages inside the book and from multiple signs of those targets that Jack saw on the night of the John Doe's death. Afterwards, she realizes she forgot to call the homeless shelter to reserve a spot for Jack, so she allows him to stay at her apartment overnight.
The next day, Amy drops off Jack to speak with Dawson Donahue. Later on, that evening, after Jack realizes that Dawson is still in danger, so they track him down at his house. Amy smells a gas leak inside the house. After she lets him back in, Dawson is killed when a gas explosion sends his car flying towards him, crushing him against a wall.
After they were kept overnight at the station for questioning over Dawson's death, Jack and Amy decide to split up to warn Katie Astin and Dominique Swann. She tracks her down at a bookstore but is unable to convince her. Soon after, she and Jack, along with some help from her brother, are able to determine the identity of the fourth victim to be Joshua Cornell III. That evening, they arrive at his apartment to warn him. Luckily, with their warning, Joshua is able to save himself from being crushed by his audio equipment. Afterwards, they all rush to the L'Oprea restaurant to save Dominique, only for her to die when a shard of glass is launched into her mouth. After returning to the apartment, Amy comforts Jack about her death and reveal her feelings for him.
After sleeping together, Amy is called back to work, only to learn that she has been placed on administrative leave for her behavior for the past two days. While moping, Amy accidently retraces the path Jack took two nights ago. After noticing a sign, she realizes that Jack is a part of the list and is next. Amy rushes to Katie's television studio and warns Jack. She is able to save Jack from being hit by a lighting rig. Jack returns the favor by kicking her out of the way when the same lighting rig swings back and nearly hits her. Katie is next and dies of electrocution by touching the lighting rig. Soon after, they go to Joshua's apartment in hopes of protecting him, only for him to be decapitated by a palatium record. Knowing that they might not have long to live, Jack and Amy go to St. Vincent Hospital to visit Lonnie to make a will for him.
Amy is the seventh and final survivor of the John Doe Murder Spree to die.
Death
Believing that they are safe when the full moon ends, they hide out in the apartment. After safe proofing the apartment, Amy makes some coffee. While watching out for signs, Jack panics, accidentally causing her to spill the coffee. Amy slips on the coffee spill and falls into her metal bird sculpture. Acting quickly, Jack pulls out the sculpture. But before he could call for help, Pete breaks into the apartment and shoots Jack, killing him. It can be assumed she died from her injuries.
